The 1st Odisha Naval Tata Hockey5s Tournament 2022

The Odisha Naval Tata Hockey HPC believes in nurturing talents from all across the state of Odisha. With various grassroot hockey centers established in most of the districts, the HPC organized a 3-day Hockey5s tournament for those centers in the U14 age category. This tournament was a first of its kind, with 14 teams and over a 100 players travelling to Dhenkanal to showcase their skills.

The 14 teams were divided in 2 groups of 7 each where they played a single round-robin format. Group A saw Gurundia take the top spot while the free scoring Majhapara finished in second place. On day 2, Kardapal and Kadobahal qualified from group B to complete our line-up for the final day of the tournament.

Kadobahal’s goalkeeper impressed our HPC head coach, Mr. Lakshminarayan who was at the venue on all three days scouting players for the next edition of KD Singh Babu U14 national tournament. Sadly, the goalkeeper met with an injury and Kadobahal were forced to play with a player less on the final day. This did not stop the players from playing their heart out and they managed to secure bronze with a player down. Majhapara were on the losing side but they had entertained the locals with 38 goals in just 7 matches.

Gurundia’s captain was awarded the player of the match in the final.

In the final, Gurundia from group A were going to face Kardapal from group B. Kardapal started slow and rusty as Gurundia took a 3-1 lead at half-time. Gurundia’s captain who was also awarded the player of the tournament ensured that his troops went home as champions as they fought a late charge from Kardapal to win 5-3
